Elderly woman dead after falling into pond, being attacked by alligators in Florida

Tragedy struck in Florida on Friday when an elderly woman fell into a pond and got attacked by two alligators, officials said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead after the incident in Englewood, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

A cause of death hasn’t been released for the woman, whom authorities say was seen falling into the pond at a golf course before the alligators struck.

Authorities have since taken two alligators out of the pond. They have not confirmed whether those alligators are the ones who grabbed the woman.

Englewood is about 30 miles south of Sarasota along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
