A witness kept an eye on the nearly 8-foot alligator until a trapper arrived and removed it.

“There were no other alligators in the area fitting the size and description of the responsible alligator,” the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in a news release. “Officials are confident the responsible alligator was removed.”

The incident is the latest involving an alligator attacking a person. Two fatal attacks occurred in South Carolina in June and August. A third fatal attack occurred in Florida in July.
