Mirchandanni, a board member of the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, ran for town supervisor in last year's election and lost to Diana.

"While I'm obviously disappointed in the results, I'm proud of the campaign I ran and the integrity with which my team and I conducted ourselves. I'm grateful for the support of community members and encouraged by the turnout for this election," Mirchandanni said. "Democracy very much depends on everyday people getting involved and making their voices heard. And if this campaign has inspired others to get involved, it's a win."

Yorktown's town board said the winner of the special election will take office immediately following the election and certification by the Board of Elections.

Lachterman is set to finish out this term and will be up for re-election in 2025.
