EastEnders fans spot heartbreaking Callum Highway detail in new post

EastEnders fans think they've spotted a concerning detail about Callum Highway in a new social media post.

Callum has had a tough time in the BBC soap of late after his husband Ben Mitchell was sent to prison. The troubled character, who exited the show in March, found his time in America come back to haunt him after he was arrested for credit card fraud.

After initially planning to run away with daughter Lexi, Ben eventually faced the music and refused bail, being sent straight to his cell to await trial.

Despite Ben urging Callum to leave him and find someone else, Callum stood by Ben and promised to wait for him while he was in prison.

However, eagle-eyed fans think they've spotted a heartbreaking detail that points to a split between the pair in the near future.

A picture posted to the EastEnders Instagram page shows Callum cosying up to close friend Martin Fowler, draping his arm around his shoulder while Martin holds his hand.

It appears, however, that Callum is not wearing his wedding ring in the picture, leading many to feel devastated that his promise to Ben is broken. Others pointed out that the ring could simply be hidden under Martin's hand, and that all is well between the fan-favourite couple.

"A perfect moment captured in The Vic... #EastEnders," the post is captioned, leading others to speculate whether the friendship between Callum and Martin could turn romantic in the future.

Announcing his exit from the soap, Ben actor Max Bowden paid tribute to the fans who had supported him during his time in Walford.

"Well guys, it's that time! It's been one hell of a ride! Thanks for taking Ben to your hearts and allowing my version into your lives," he wrote in an Instagram post.

"I had an amazing five years at @bbceastenders and learnt a hell of a lot about myself and the craft I love so dearly. It got me through some very hard personal times and I will be forever grateful! I really will never be able to thank everybody for the support enough, because the fans of the show are so passionate, caring and invested.

"It enables us as actors to want to keep going and always be better; so I really do from the bottom of my heart appreciate every single person who has sent any sort of positivity my way over the last five years - I love you all."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
