EastEnders casts former Emmerdale star as George's son Junior

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has cast former Emmerdale star Micah Balfour as George Knight's son Junior.

The past few months have seen Vic barman George discovering that his adoptive father, Eddie Knight, murdered his biological father decades earlier to prevent a custody battle.

While George agreed to testify against his father in his murder trial, he has also dealt with intense grieving over the sudden death of his adoptive mother Gloria.

Viewers have seen George trying to reach out to his estranged son Junior throughout this rough period but he's not been able to make contact.

This will change when Junior arrives in Walford later this month, though the exact reason for father and son's reunion is being kept under wraps for now.

EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw has hinted that viewers should expect Junior to arrive with secrets of his own.

"I’m delighted to welcome Micah Balfour to the cast of EastEnders as he takes on the role of Junior Knight," the producer said. "Although Junior has been referenced since The Knights arrived in the Square, the audience knows very little about George’s son and the circumstances behind their estrangement.

"Junior arrives in Walford following an unlikely meet with his dad and is quickly thrust into the heart of the drama. However, it will soon become apparent to viewers that there is more to Junior than meets the eye…"

Micah has previous soap experience playing Dr Jermaine Bailey in Emmerdale, and has also appeared in Death in Paradise, Doctor Who and The Bill.

"I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of EastEnders as part of the Knight family," he said. "I grew up watching the show and many of the characters have been part of my life for as long as I can remember, so walking onto the Square for the first time was the most surreal experience of my career!

"It’s a privilege to work with Colin Salmon (George), who I’ve watched with admiration for many years, and Francesca Henry (Gina) and Molly Rainford (Anna), who are dynamite on screen, as well as the amazing Harriet Thorpe (Elaine) and Kellie Bright (Linda). Junior is an exciting character to play as he’s a complex man, and he’s going to cause a bit of a stir!”

Before Junior arrives, George is in for some life-changing news next week when he is diagnosed with a brain condition linked to repeated blows to the head.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
