Early voting for May's state and local primaries begins next week. What you need to know

With the completion of Georgia's Presidential Preference Primary election, the jam-packed election year now moves to a slate of state and local races in May. On the ballot next month: state legislators, county commissioners, and general elections for nonpartisan races such as various judge positions.

The advance voting period for May's elections runs from April 29 to May 17. Voters who wish to vote absentee can request ballots up until May 10, and ballots will be mailed out between April 22 to May 10.

Here is everything you need to know to cast your ballot early:

Early in-person voting

There are four locations in Chatham County for early voting, open weekdays from April 29 to May 17, including one new early voting location:

  • Voter Registration Annex, 1249 Eisenhower Drive, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Mosquito Control, 65 Billy B Hair Drive, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Savannah Civic Center, 301 W. Oglethorpe Ave., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • (New) Oatland Island Wildlife Center, 711 Sandtown Road, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Weekend voting

Weekend voting during the early voting period operates on a different schedule than weekday voting. There are four weekend voting days available for May's election: May 4, May 5, May 11 and May 12. Here are the times and locations available:

SaturdayMay 4

  • Voter Registration Annex, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SundayMay 5

  • Voter Registration Annex, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SaturdayMay 11

  • Voter Registration Annex, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Savannah Civic Center, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday May 12

  • Voter Registration Annex, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Savannah Civic Center, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Drop box locations

Chatham County has three drop box locations for those casting absentee ballots. They are located at the Voter Registration Annex, Mosquito Control and Oatland Island Wildlife Center. Drop boxes are open during early in-person voting hours only.
