Firefighters early this morning extinguished a wood pallet manufacturing shop fire near Silverton Rd NE and Lardon Rd NE in Marion County, according to Marion County Fire District No. 1 Battalion Chief Mark Bjorklund.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department confirmed a structure was fully engulfed in flames following reports about 1 a.m. of a large fire ball, Bjorklund said.

The first-arriving engine focused on protecting two residential structures, and because there are no fire hydrants in the area, two water tenders were requested, he said.

The wood-frame structure filled with pallet-making supplies and multiple stacks pallets outside were a total loss.

Marion County firefighters were assisted by the Salem and Keizer fire departments and county public works. The fire was under control in about 40 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The cause is under investigation.
