Early morning crash on Idaho 16 kills Emmett man, blocks road for roughly 3 hours
A multivehicle crash near Emmett left a 40-year-old man dead early Wednesday, Idaho State Police said.
An Emmett man was driving northbound at 6:15 a.m. on Idaho 16 when his 2006 Saturn Vue “crossed over the center line and sideswiped” a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup heading southbound, according to a news release. The Vue driver, who was wearing a seat belt, succumbed to injuries at the scene, police said.
The pickup driver, also 40, of Emmett, was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the release.
A 21-year-old female, who was driving behind the pickup, had her 2013 Ford C-Max struck by debris from the collision, police said. She was wearing a seat belt and was not transported to a hospital.
Idaho 16 is a 16-mile route that connects the Treasure Valley to Emmett. The collision occurred just south of Emmett at mile marker 111, and the highway was blocked for roughly 3 hours in both directions. The incident is under investigation by ISP.
Last month, a motorcycle passenger was killed in a crash along Idaho 16.
