The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) will dismiss early Thursday.

According to a press release sent by the district at 10:51 a.m. the decision was based on "the most recent information received this morning from the National Weather Service, severe weather is expected to arrive in our area this afternoon and continue into the evening hours."

The district cited threats such as extreme wind guests up to potentially 60 mph and potential for tornadoes, all of which could impact school bus travel.

The statement read, "In the interest of safety for both our students and staff, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System will operate on an early release day today and students will be dismissed early. All afterschool activities are canceled including athletic activities, 21st Century Community Centers, and the YMCA After School programs."
