Eagles Release Veteran Player Following Week 1 Victory

The Philadelphia Eagles surprised many with their dominating performance over the Atlanta Falcons, winning 32-6. Unfortunately, one Eagles veteran won’t get much time to celebrate it.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are releasing veteran defensive tackle T.Y. McGill this week. McGill did not feature in yesterday’s game against the Falcons.

Per the report, McGill recently spent time on the Eagles’ COVID-19 list, hence his limited reps lately. But he did make the final 53-man roster thanks to a strong preseason.

The 28-year-old defensive tackle was in his second season with the Eagles after spending last year off and on the roster. He appeared in seven games and had nine tackles, one tackle for loss and three QB hits along with 0.5 sacks.

McGill also played two games for the Eagles in 2018 before spending 2019 with the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s played for nine different teams in six years.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons had a low-scoring first half, but quickly pulled away after scoring a touchdown with two seconds remaining in the half.

In the second half, the Eagles scored 17 unanswered points on offense and completely shut down the Falcons thanks to their pass rush. The Eagles sacked Falcons QB Matt Ryan three times, limiting him to 164 passing yards.

After a lot of offseason uncertainty, the Eagles came out the gate strong.
