The Philadelphia Eagles are just a few years removed from a Super Bowl win, but the future of the franchise is in question.

Philadelphia fired former head coach Doug Pederson after a disastrous 2020 campaign. Now, new head coach Nick Sirianni is in charge of righting the ship and getting the Eagles back into contention.

Much of his time will be spent coaching young quarterback Jalen Hurts. The former second-round pick flashed at times last season, but also looked very much like a rookie quarterback in others.

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman said he wants to see Hurts “take the reins” this season. Here’s what Roseman said, via EJ Smith of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“He’s done everything possible off the field and during the spring practices to take the reins, and we want to see him do that. This is a big year for any player that goes from year one to year two. So we’re excited to see that, see his growth, and [see him] working with the ones.”

Hurts has always set high expectations for himself as well. The former Alabama and Oklahoma star knows he has to play better next season if he wants to lead Philadelphia to the playoffs.

“I truly mean that, and I have that mentality,” Hurts said. “For a guy like me, I hold myself accountable to go out there and play at a high level every time I touch the field. There’s not going to be anybody that holds Jalen to a higher standard than Jalen.”

Can Hurts lead the Eagles to a winning season?
