Dunkin’s New Spicy Ghost Pepper Doughnut Is Here to Fire up Your Morning

The unfortunate part about being awake in the morning is…the fact that we have to be awake. But you know what makes being awake a little bit easier? Coffee! And you know who has a sweet fall menu that we just can’t get enough of right now? Dunkin’!

While Dunkin’ recently rolled out the Stuffed Bagel Minis, it seems they’ve still got some more tricks (and treats) up their sleeve for us this season. I’d have my iced coffee at the ready—it’s going to get a little hot!

Can You Handle the Spicy Ghost Pepper Doughnut?

This is probably your soon-to-be new favorite doughnut—unless you’re not into spicy things, to which I am so very, very sorry. If you’ve heard of ghost pepper before, but you’re not actually sure what it is, let me explain. This pepper is definitely not like your run-of-the-mill bell pepper, and still doesn’t even come close to the heat of a habanero pepper!

According to the Scoville Heat Unit scale, a ghost pepper has a Scoville score of 855,000 to 1,041,427 SHU. It’s second only to the ghastly Carolina reaper, which clocks in at a Scoville score of 1,400,000 to 2,200,000 SHU. For reference, the Scoville score of a jalapeno is 2,500 to 8,000 SHU. That’s quite a difference.

Luckily, the Dunkin’ version isn’t just ghost peppers sitting on top of a fluffy doughnut. I don’t know if we’d have viable tongues after a few of those! Instead, their newest concoction is a little sweeter. The icing is a combination of strawberry and notes of the fiery ghost pepper, complete with bright red sprinkles for a flashy finish.

Do you dare try one this season?

When Will This Doughnut Be Available?

The doughnut was officially released on October 14. If you’ve already decided that you totally need this new item ASAP, head to your nearest Dunkin’ before they’re all gone. If you’re still deciding on whether or not your mouth can handle the heat, don’t worry. You’ll have some time to think it over, but don’t wait too long! It’s a limited time offer, and you wouldn’t want to miss such a great opportunity like this.

Just remember…you’ve been warned.
