Dump Trump and beat Biden. Tennessee Republicans should opt for Nikki Haley on March 5

Not since the Civil War has this country witnessed such divisiveness between political parties as we are seeing now. Instead of campaigning in a statesman-like approach, the two current elderly presidential candidate frontrunners, President Biden and former President Trump, are selfishly again seeking power with their own partisan agendas.

With boiling turmoil around the globe and threats by our enemies, this is not a time for our country to be divided, appear weak and be led by someone not on top of their game. We need a leader of a younger generation who can unite us all by reaching across the aisle, be strong, energetic and mentally and physically fit and alert at all times.

Nikki Haley, as a Republican alternative, strongly stands as a sole ray of hope and promise over the Biden-Trump rematch.

“We have a country to save” is a rallying belief Haley sincerely holds dear. She represents a generational change of leadership with strength and moral clarity. Her experience and leadership as a two-term governor of South Carolina and as ambassador to the United Nations well prepare her for holding the highest office. She possesses both empathy and decorum. But, let’s put gender and party aside. Instead, select the individual whose real intention is to unite us all and to make us a stronger nation as a beacon to the rest of the world.

Another view: Nikki Haley may not think racism is a problem, but has she ever asked a Black person?

Here's the case against Joe Biden and Donald Trump

Early voting in Tennessee’s primary began on Feb. 14 and goes through Feb. 27. Super Tuesday is March 5.

Before heading out to vote, I am asking you to think deeply about the presidential candidates and ask yourself these questions: Do you want to re-elect President Biden, who is already 81, has a frail presence, appears weak to the rest of the world, and more than likely will not be able to serve the full four-year term?

On the other hand, reasons for voting for Trump that I have heard from several individuals include that he already has experience as president, wars did not spring up around the world and the economy was in good shape.

What about the over $8 trillion he added to our country’s debt? Do we need to re-open the White House doors to him when, driven by his blustery ego rather than allegiance to this country, he vows to “get even” with his opponents in a dictatorial manner?

Think back during his term in office, his ego seemed to always take precedence in his decisions. While president, he mocked the military and those with challenges and infirmities.

Remember how one candidate mixed up Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi?

Unfortunately, the 77-year-old Donald Trump repeatedly behaves as a 7-year-old. With an egotistical thin skin, absent integrity, uncontrollable anger and continual temper tantrums, can you trust him to do the right thing for the nation if backed up against a wall? Can one honestly vote for a man who doesn’t respect women except as sexual objects?

He is obviously in cognitive decline, demonstrated by his mistaking Nikki Haley for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, repeatedly confusing President Biden with former President Obama and often babbling in his speeches.

As for his legal problems, that’s a whole other story. The best argument that I heard recently from a male colleague was, “I couldn’t vote for a man who I wouldn’t trust to be in the same room as my 15-year-old daughter.”

We are better than this, and I, for one, am trusting the voters to consider former Ambassador Nikki Haley as the next president of the United States. Our lives literally depend on it.
