Lipa told The New York Times that her parents' struggles as immigrants to the U.K. from Kosovo influence her work ethic. "What's maybe the immigrant mentality … this thing I have in my head where I know that, if I don't work hard enough, the rug could just be pulled from under my feet," she said.

Dua Lipa was born in London on Aug. 22, 1995, to Anisa and Dukagjin Lipa. She had music in her blood: Father Dukagjin is the former singer of the Kosovan rock band Oda, and she credits him for helping her pursue her music career from a young age.
"My father was a musician, so I've always been really inspired by him and living in a really musical household," she told Glamour U.K. "Those are the things that really inspired me and I feel like it was inevitable to fall into this as a career. My parents listened to a lot of Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Stereophonics and Sting—The Police, Radiohead."
Her family moved to Kosovo when she was 11, and four years later, she moved back to London solo.
