Drivers injured, one critically, in crash Thursday in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TWP. — Two drivers were injured, one critically, in a crash Thursday in northern Lenawee County.

At about 11:25 a.m., Lenawee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 12 and M-52 in Franklin Township, a news release from the sheriff's office said. According to the deputies, a red Jeep Wrangler was northbound on M-52 driven by an 85-year-old woman from Manchester. The second vehicle, a silver Dodge Avenger, was traveling westbound on U.S. 12 and driven by an 89-year-old woman from Onsted. Witnesses stated the Avenger failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection and was struck by the Wrangler.

The driver of the Avenger was flown by Survival Flight to an area hospital and is in critical condition, the release said. The driver of the Jeep was transported via ambulance to an area hospital in stable condition.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor, and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. The Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene, and the crash is under further investigation.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Clinton Police Department, Sand Lake Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department and Lenawee Community Ambulance.
