A 34-year-old Dallas man was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth last Saturday as he tried to exchange insurance information with another driver following a previous crash, family members said.

A motorcyclist also was killed in the accident when his vehicle hit Sergio Torres Hernandez’s car, which then struck the Dallas man.

Torres Hernandez and the motorcyclist were pronounced dead at the scene.

The family of the Dallas man have created a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses and medical costs.

“This is so unexpected and we thank everyone for the help,” wrote Eduardo Torres of Dallas, brother of Sergio Torres Hernandez, on the GoFundMe account. “We ask that you keep our family in your prayers.”

Authorities have not released the name of the motorcyclist killed in the crash.

Fort Worth police responded to the major accident Saturday night in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20.

A silver Toyota sedan was stopped in the 3000 block of I-20 and the driver of the Toyota, Sergio Torres Hernandez, was standing outside of his car.

Eduardo Torres said his brother’s car had been rear-ended on I-20 at Hulen Street, and he stepped out of his vehicle to exchange insurance information with the driver of the other car.

Yarelis Martinez, Sergio Torres Hernandez’s wife, told KXAS-TV that they were headed home from her parents’ house.

“He tried to ask for insurance, and he told me to call police and 911 and I was so nervous, so I started trying to unlock my phone and next thing I know everything blacked out,” Martinez recalled.

A black Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling east on I-20 when it collided with the rear of the Toyota. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown to the ground, Fort Worth police said.

The Toyota struck Sergio Torres Hernandez, throwing him east into a lane of the freeway.

Eduardo Torres said his brother’s wife and their 3-year-old son, Ethan, were in the car. She suffered facial injuries and will need surgery.

Their son was not injured, Eduardo Torres said.

The funeral for Sergio Torres Hernandez was Friday in Dallas, and a burial service is Saturday.
