Driver arrested after pursuit passes through Monroe County

MONROE TWP. — Police arrested a Toledo man in Wayne County early Thursday after he led officers on pursuits in Ohio and Monroe County.

Monroe County sheriff's deputies became involved at about 2:15 a.m. when the Washington Township, Ohio, Police Department contacted Central Dispatch to report they were pursuing a northbound vehicle headed into Michigan on Interstate 75.

"They reported that the vehicle had fled from a traffic stop in Toledo and that the registered owner may have warrants," Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in a news release.

Deputies were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices as the vehicle passed LaPlasiance Road. Deputies then took over the pursuit, which continued northbound on I-75 into Wayne County.

Deputies terminated the pursuit at Dix Highway and I-75, the release said. A short time later, troopers from the Michigan State Police Metro South post contacted Monroe County Central Dispatch and reported they had located the fleeing vehicle on I-96 near Schaefer Highway in northwest Detroit.

The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Toledo, was arrested and lodged in the Monroe County Jail. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending formal arraignment in 1st District Court in Monroe.

The case remains under investigation by sheriff's office, Sgt. Ryan Sottile as well as the Washington Township Police Department. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 734-240-7567.
