Who should be the Driscoll Children's Hospital High School Athlete of the Week?

It's almost May and district and regional titles are being won every day while every spring sport is in the home stretch. Several of the top performances are finalists for this week's Driscoll Children’s Hospital Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week.

The Caller-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

Hebbronville's Alexia Alegria went 7 for 7 with eight RBIs, two home runs and three doubles in a bi-district playoff series against Mathis.

Woodsboro's Sidney Castillo allowed three hits, three runs and struck out 20 in the circle adding three hits and four RBIs at the plate as the Eagles swept Agua Dulce in the bi-district playoffs.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.

This Week's Finalists

• Alexia Alegria, Hebbronville softball — Trevino went 7 for 7 with eight RBIs including two home runs and three doubles in the Longhorns sweep of Mathis.

• Avari Andrade, Tuloso-Midway softball — Andrade went 4 for 6 with one triple, one home run and six RBIs in the Cherokees' sweep of La Feria in the bi-district playoffs.

• Collier Carroll, Calallen baseball — Carroll threw seven innings, allowing one hit and no runs with three walks and four strikeouts in a pitcher's duel against Alice in District 31-4A play.

• Sidney Castillo, Woodsboro softball — Castillo allowed three hits, three runs and struck out 20 in the circle adding three hits and four RBIs at the plate as the Eagles swept Agua Dulce in the bi-district playoffs.

• Julian Colsa, Veterans Memorial baseball — Colsa capped the Eagles seventh-inning rally with a game-winning RBI as Veterans Memorial swept Ray with a 2-1 win to earn the District 29-5A championship.

• Harper Green, Beeville girls track — Green qualified for the UIL State Track Meet in two events, winning the 300 hurdles and finishing second in the 100 hurdles.

• Jerrick Guzman, Alice baseball — Guzman threw seven shutout innings allowing three hits with two walks and three strikeouts as the Coyotes knocked off Calallen 1-0 in extra innings.

• Clarissa Valdez, Carroll softball — Valdez went 3 for 7 with two home runs, one triple, and four RBIs in the Tigers series win against Rio Grande City also, winning Game 1 in the circle for Carroll, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.
