Who should be the Driscoll Children's Hospital High School Athlete of the Week?

Track & field athletes were on display in Austin and Waco last week and several state medalists have cracked the nomination list for this week's Driscoll Children’s Hospital Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week.

The Caller-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

Kingsville's Jasiah Rivera won the 300-meter hurdles and finished second in the 110 hurdles in Class 4A boys last week at the UIL State Track Meet in Austin.

John Paul II senior Armando Rivera came back from the TAPPS state track meet with a pair of medals, claiming his fourth straight triple jump title, along with a second-place finish in boys long jump.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.

This Week's Finalists

• Flour Bluff boys 1,600 relay — The Hornets (Austin Villanueva, Owen Aggus, Elijah Gonzales, Zach DeWalt) capped their season with a bronze medal at the Class 5A UIL State Track meet, setting a new school record with a time of 3:17.03.

• Olivia Carney, Rockport-Fulton girls track — Carney had the ninth best clearance in pole vault going into the UIL State Track Meet, but broke her personal record twice, to clear 11-6 and earn a bronze medal in Class 4A.

• Nyomi Garcia, Robstown girls track — Garcia finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run and had a massive kick down the stretch in the 1,600 to finish third in Class 4A at the UIL State Track Meet with a time of 5:02.83.

• Refugio track & field program — The Refugio boys track team won its 13th state title, and third in a row, while the girls team claimed its ninth championship, and second consecutive crown.

• Armando Rivera, John Paul II boys track — Rivera captured his fourth consecutive state title in TAPPS triple jump with a jump of 47-4.25 and added a silver in long jump (22-7.75).

• Jasiah Rivera, Kingsville boys track — Rivera won the Class 4A boys 300 hurdles and finished second in the 110 hurdles at the UIL State Track Meet.

• Ryder Harrison, Gregory-Portland boys track — Harrison capped his season with a silver medal in Class 5A at the UIL State Track meet, clearing 15-feet.

• Skyler Ramos, Riviera softball — Ramos threw a no-hitter against Port Aransas in bi-district with two walks and 12 strikeouts in Game 1 and then allowed one hit and one unearned run in Game 2, going 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and six RBI.
