Drew McIntyre is staying put in WWE – thanks to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

McIntyre's contract status had been the subject of much speculation in recent months, with the wrestler himself refusing to confirm if he had resigned.

In March, McIntyre, whose deal was said to be up this month, told The Ringer's Masked Men podcast: "It's very important to me, having a new contract.

"There is nothing I can say right now. I can say that I'm having fun. I can say that I intend to continue having fun and I'm in my prime."

However, it appears McIntyre has been able to reach a new deal with WWE, with Johnson announcing the news on his Instagram.

Sharing a video of McIntyre being presented with a Scottish Claymore, Johnson wrote: "Man of my word. As you're a man of yours – Congratulations @dmcintyrewwe on signing your new @wwe deal.

"As we talked about after your #WrestleMania match, I know this Scottish Claymore represents everything that you, your family and your country embody. Alba gu bràth.

"As you know, I wanted to personally hand deliver this gift to you at your meeting with Nick Khan, but I had warm cheat meals and chilled tequila waiting for me.

Of course, Johnson is not just the 'Final Boss' on screen with WWE. In January, he was appointed to the board of directors of TKO, the group that owns WWE and UFC.

Johnson's appointment to the board coincided with his return to the company ahead of his WrestleMania XL storyline with Cody Rhodes.
