A dramatic Civil War photography display highlights these events happening in Brunswick

Renowned expert on Civil War photography to speak at Brunswick Civil War Round Table

Garry Adelman will present a dramatic presentation entitled, “Civil War Photography Extravaganza.” Adelman will present a fascinating photographic presentation covering Civil War events, people and places at Brunswick Civil War Round Table meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the Hatch Auditorium on Caswell Beach. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. The visitor fee is $10, which can include a spouse, and can be applied toward the $25 annual membership dues. Museum of Coastal Carolina

The Museum of Coastal Carolina presents several programs in December.

  • The Sea Tales family program will be "The Gingerbread Pirates" by Kristin Kladstrup – Blow me down! What if Captain Cookie stood up to Santa? Embrace your inner pirate as this adventurous pirate tale beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. Participants will also make pirate hats.

  • Touch Tank feeding with staff and trained volunteer assistance, gently touch sea stars, urchins, anemones, conchs, horseshoe crabs, and hermit crabs. Also trained volunteers would feed the animals, participants will learn more about the sea creatures that call the museum home. The program is at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8.

  • Coastal Creations will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. Participants can dive into "Water Wonders" by examining organisms that can’t be seen with the naked eye. Participants can also complete a watercolor craft.

The museum is located at 21 E. Second St., Ocean Isle Beach.

North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport

From noon-4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport in conjunction with the city of Southport will hold its annual "Winterfest" tradition. The theme will be "historic holidays." The staff and volunteers will be dressed out in period attire. Also there will be historic activities to partake in and participants can make crafts to take home. The event is free and appropriate for all ages. The museum is located at 204 E. Moore St., Southport.

Bolivia Christmas Parade

The Bolivia Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the new Bolivia Volunteer Fire Department, located at 3848 Old Ocean Highway. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. with an open house at the fire department. Details: 910-253-5025 or 910-520-6843.

Southport Flotilla

The Southport Flotilla will be held Saturday, Dec. 9. The Southport Flotilla's lineup will start at 6 p.m. beginning at Morningstar Marinas going toward Indigo Plantation Marina. The flotilla will continue proceeding past downtown Southport cruising to Deep Point Marina. The flotilla will turn around back past Southport, the extended route will cruise to Midway Bridge, down to Veterans Park just past St. James Marina.
