Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Lets You Play Animal Crossing In-Game

The next mainline game in the Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) series, Infinite Wealth, is still a few months off yet, but publisher Sega has been showing off more and more of the game lately in the leadup to launch. The latest bit of information has been revealed, and it’s essentially just an Animal Crossing minigame.

In yesterday’s Xbox Partner Preview presentation, Sega and RGG Studio revealed a new minigame in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth called Dondoko Island. In Dondoko Island, you’ll take a break from the melodrama of the seedy criminal underworld and instead focus on building a delightful island resort.

You’ll be tasked with gathering materials from the island and crafting buildings, furniture, and more to create a perfect island paradise. There will, of course, be visitors and tourists to help accommodate, and plenty of customization on offer, effectively letting you design and build your own house and the entire island exactly the way you want it.

It seems like you’ll also be able to beat up baddies who’ve visited your island uninvited and are up to no good, which is actually a bit surprising, because it uses action combat gameplay. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, like Yakuza: Like a Dragon before it, uses turn-based RPG combat – similar to Dragon Quest or Persona – with the action gameplay of old now relegated to spinoffs and side stories like Judgment and Like a Dragon: Gaiden.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth got a January release date revealed last month, with the game set to be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC on January 26, 2024. Those who don’t want to wait that long, though, will be able to play a bonus demo in Like a Dragon Gaiden, though it’s not known exactly what will be included in the demo.

It was also recently revealed that Like a Dragon Gaiden would be launching without an English dub, with the option to play the game with English voices set to come in a post-launch update. It’s not known if Infinite Wealth will suffer the same fate, though most trailers to date have exclusively featured Japanese voices.
