Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Gets A January Release Date

Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth combat

The next mainline game in the Like a Dragon series – previously known as the Yakuza series – was announced some time ago, alongside the upcoming side story, Like a Dragon Gaiden. While we learned about Gaiden’s release date earlier this year, the upcoming game, subtitled Infinite Wealth, was still up in the air. Now, we have a release date, and one heck of a trailer.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the eight mainline game in the series, and follows up the story started in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, with Ichiban Kasuga as the protagonist. It also brings back the protagonist of the previous six games, Kazuma Kiryu, as a dual protagonist in what’s likely to be Kiryu’s final game.

If you’re wondering why it could be Kiryu’s last game, we won’t spoil it for you, but you do have two options: you can wait for the game to release early next year, or you can watch the lengthy story reveal trailer below. We should warn you, there are some absolutely gigantic spoilers, and you may want to go in without knowing any of the stuff that happens in it.

The trailer came as part of a Like a Dragon direct hosted by Sega, a half-hour presentation that showed off story and gameplay elements for the game ahead of its launch. There was also a gameplay reveal trailer in the direct, and it’s looking delightfully silly and over-the-top, while still seeming to hit all the right notes for a turn-based RPG. We also saw that Sega Bass Fishing and Spikeout will be entirely playable within the game, continuing the tradition of retro Sega games being accessible within the Like a Dragon series.

At the end of the direct, we finally got the release date for Infinite Wealth, and it’s a little surprising: January 26, 2024. We all expected that Infinite Wealth would be released in 2024, but absolutely nobody was expecting it so early, least of all just two months after Gaiden, which is set to be released on November 9, 2023.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC. You can play an Infinite Wealth bonus demo in the next Like a Dragon game, Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, which should hopefully lead right into Infinite Wealth two months later.
