DPW closes recycling site at John Marshall Community High School, effective immediately

INDIANAPOLIS — The east side community recycling drop-off site at John Marshall Community High School is closing, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works announced Tuesday.

The closest drop-off site to the shuttered East 38th Street location is at Kroger on 11101 Pendleton Pike.

Anyone caught dumping materials at the closed site could face illegal dumping fines, according to a news release from the Office of Sustainability.

What materials can be dropped off at recycling sites?

Hoosiers can drop off loose, clean and dry materials at their local recycling sites. Don't drop off recycling in bags, which get caught in machines and create hazards.

Items accepted at drop-off locations:

  • All colors of glass

  • #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs (no Styrofoam, plastic bags, or plastic film)

  • Aluminum, tin, and steel beverage and food cans

  • Newspapers, broken-down/flattened cardboard boxes, paper, and magazines
