DPS: Trooper finds 80 pounds of meth during I-40 traffic stop, driver arrested

WHEELER COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced it seized 80 pounds of suspected methamphetamine after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Wheeler County this week.

According to DPS, on Wednesday, March 20, at about 4:18 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica traveling east on Interstate 40 near Shamrock for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper found multiple plastic-wrapped packages of methamphetamine located in the front door panels and underneath the carpet in the rear cargo area.

DPS Special Agents and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agents were contacted, and they assisted with the investigation. DEA Special Agents then took over the case.

The Chrysler's driver, identified as 28-year-old Marcos Moreno-Tirado of Visalia, Calif., was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Randall County Jail.

The drugs were reportedly being transported from California to Arkansas.
