Downtown Heck's Taproom in Massillon has small fire

MASSILLON − Firefighters quickly put out a fire Tuesday afternoon at Downtown Heck's Taproom at 43 Lincoln Way E, a fire captain said.

Massillon Fire Capt. James Coughlin said no one was hurt. The business was closed and no one was in the building when someone reported the fire by the building's front window at about 1:16 p.m. Coughlin said firefighters had the fire out within a few minutes. The city fire department did not have to request mutual aid assistance from surrounding fire departments.

Coughlin said investigators were examining the scene later Tuesday afternoon to try to determine the cause.

Downtown Heck's Taproom posted on Facebook that it would have to cancel a Beer and Booze Book Club event scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

"Bad news, we ran into a bit of trouble today. A small electrical fire has us doing clean up for a couple days....back up and most definitely running by next club day," said the post.

A message seeking comment on whether the Downtown Heck's Taproom would be closed for the next few days was left on the business' voicemail.
