Downtown business burglarized in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE – Police are investigating a Thursday burglary in which the window to a downtown business was smashed and a cash register stolen, a police spokesperson said Thursday.

The incident at The Cake Lady Custom Cakes in the 200 block of Orange Avenue appears to have happened at 3:21 a.m., said Larry Croom, Fort Pierce Police spokesperson.

Croom said officers drove by at 4:11 a.m. and noticed the smashed window. Using surveillance video, investigators determined the incident happened about 50 minutes earlier.

Croom said it appears a man threw a “blunt object” through the front window, went inside and stole the cash register. The cash register, he said, was found nearby.

Croom said it was the only business burglarized in the downtown area during that time period.

Croom said the alleged burglar last was seen wearing a black jacket, black mask, blue jeans, white sneakers and a red backpack. He last was seen in the 100 block of North Second Street.
