The first trailer has been released for Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery's new film Boy Kills World.

Dockery stars in the action thriller alongside It's Bill Skarsgård, who plays the titular 'Boy' on a bloody quest for vengeance.

Alongside Dockery and Skarsgård, Boy Kills World also stars Utopia's Jessica Rothe, Famke Janssen, and the voice of H. Jon Benjamin.

As the film's trailer shows, Boy Kills World is a quirky revenge story. 'Boy', who is deaf and voiceless, takes on the voice of his favourite video game character as his inner voice.

He had vowed revenge after his family was murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (played by Janssen), described as "the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty".

The film's synopsis reads: "Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favourite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents.

"Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting.

"As he tries to get his bearings in this delirious realm, Boy soon falls in with a desperate resistance group, all the while bickering with the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister."

Evil Dead's Sam Raimi has produced the film, with Moritz Mohr directing from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers.

Boy Kills World premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and hits US theatres on April 26, 2024. A UK release date is yet to be announced.

Last month Dockery landed her next movie role in thriller Flight Risk alongside Mark Wahlberg and That '70s Show's Topher Grace.

Dockery plays an air marshal, while Grace has been cast a fugitive, with Wahlberg playing the pilot of a plane they're travelling on. However, as they travel over the Alaskan wilderness, tensions escalate as it becomes apparent that not everything on board is as it seems.
