Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode's new movie Freud's Last Session has confirmed its UK release date.

The big-screen adaptation of the play of the same name has already been released in the US, and will come out in the UK on June 14.

Set in 1939, the film stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud, the world-famous neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis.

Following his recent escape with his daughter from the Nazis, Freud is visited by Oxford academic and The Chronicles of Narnia writer C S Lewis, played by Goode.

As the synopsis states, the two of them come together for "a monumental session over the belief in the future of mankind and the existence of God".

The film itself intends to draw parallels between the topics of the time the two men discuss and the world of today, as well as issues of free will, mortality, and faith.

Since Freud's Last Session has been released in the US already, it means that there are plenty of reviews out.

Looking at Rotten Tomatoes, plenty of critics have praised the performances of both of its leads, although its slow and ponderous nature may not appeal to everyone.

Meanwhile, after much speculation, it looks like a third Downton Abbey film is indeed happening.

Although not officially announced, Imelda Staunton recently said that there will be a third and final film, and that she didn't care if she got in trouble for saying it.

Interestingly, rumours have also been swirling claiming that filming has begun already, but for a seventh season of the TV show rather than for a new movie. There has also been speculation that a new season of the TV show could end up on a different platform than ITV.
