Door County's Northern Sky Theater gets ready for its 2024 season with 'Raise the Curtain'

FISH CREEK - Northern Sky Theater's 2024 season won't officially open until June, but the company offers a warmup with its 20th annual "Raise the Curtain: Light the Sky" get-together and performance kickoff May 25 at its Gould Theater. Reservations are now being taken and sponsorships accepted.

The evening includes food, drink and music, an auction and a chance to mingle with fellow Northern Sky fans before a performance by Northern Sky company members in the theater.

Jeff Herbst, Doc Heide and Pamela Skocir were among the cast in Northern Sky Theater's 2012 production of "Belgians in Heaven," the last time its hit musical was staged there. The show returns for a 30th anniversary production in Northern Sky's 2024 season, and the professional theater company warms up for the season with its annual "Raise the Curtain: Light the Sky" event May 25.

The event starts at 5 p.m. on the patio outside the theater with beverages and hors d'oeuvres prepared by Fish Creek chop house and fine dining restaurant Alexander's and live music around a bonfire by popular vintage blues/roots band Water Street Hot Shots.

The Northern Sky Marketplace, which opens for online viewing and bidding May 20, will have its show-themed auction items on display in the theater lobby until closing at 7:20 p.m. All bids are taken online only through the event's Give Smart site.

Also, Raise the Curtain Mystery Boxes return after their premiere in 2022. Attendees can purchase one for $25, and while buyers won't know exactly what they're getting until they open them, each box is filled with gifts worth at least $30, with several boxes worth more than $75 and one worth $250. Those interested can reserve a Mystery Box in advance, but they're only available to those attending in person.

To cap the evening, at 7:30 p.m. some of Northern Sky's popular members take the stage in the Gould to perform a one-of-a-kind concert that could include some teases from the upcoming 2024 season, favorite numbers and a few surprises.

Tickets to attend are $125. An Event Host Sponsorship is $1,500 and includes two tickets to the event and a special gift. Those interested also can sponsor a Northern Sky member's appearance at the event for $50. Registration is by credit card using an online form; those who need to pay another way should call or email Northern Sky.
