On an otherwise fairly uneventful Thursday in February, the Grammy award-winning sister duo Chloe x Halle posted a picture from a recording studio that sent fans into a tailspin—and rightfully so. It’s been four years since the two have released music together, and in that time they’ve each been laser-focused on rolling out a number of respective solo projects (Halle's starring role in the The Little Mermaid live action film and Chloe’s debut album In Pieces might ring a bell.) For the sisters to drop evidence of music being made together again? Groundbreaking.

The Instagram wasn’t actually breaking any drop dates though, but instead it announced a new venture: a collaboration with Core Hydration. A partnership that was special for them to do as a pair, Chloe told Cosmopolitan. “It felt incredibly natural because we've always loved Core water growing up, and we’d always have all of their water bottles in our house. To be able to be the faces together as sisters of something we grow up on is pretty cool.”

We sat down with the power duo (and frequent Cosmo covers stars!) at their Core Hydration event in NYC to catch up on how their lives have changed since Halle gave birth to her son Halo last December, what fans can expect from the new Chloe x Halle music they’re cooking up, and how they decompress from the pressures of stardom these days.

At today's event, you guys and Core Hydration hosted a group meditation. Do you had any calm-down tips for people that struggle to disconnect from daily stressors?

Halle: I literally have anxiety, I'm an over-thinker, so when I need to turn off, I get away from all of my devices. I make sure I'm outside in nature, grounding my feet in the grass. And we love to go to the beach. We love to go places where we feel very small within nature because then it just puts everything into perspective. That's how I shut my brain off.

Chloe: Ashwagandha is amazing and also vitamin D supplements. I started adding that into my everyday vitamin routine and it definitely helps, because sometimes we don't get enough vitamin D and that's essential for our mood stability. Those would be my little nugget of advice, because sometimes we can't remove ourselves in situations that are bringing us a lot of stress. We just gotta thug it out, but we can grab onto those life rafts that are available to us.

When you do have time to decompress, what are you watching nowadays?

Chloe: Ooh The Iron Claw! I love it. I watched it two days ago. I cried and I cried and I cried and I cried. It had Zac Efron and the guy from The Bear—such a phenomenal movie.

Halle: You know what I’ve watched? Black Cake. It's such an amazing show about this young girl in the Caribbean. I watched the whole thing in a day. The girl who plays the lead is so amazing. She's a 19-year-old girl named Mia [Isaac]. You should check that out.

Halle you're a new mom, and this new generation of kids will likely grow up in a more overstimulating world than even we did. What are the wellness values you'd like to instill in Halo as he grows up?

Halle: Wow, that's a great question. I'm learning so much, I ended up on “Mom TikTok.” It’s like, I want to make sure that I'm okay with him having time to watch TV, but I also want to cut off time for him to be out in nature and with the world. I just want him to know that there is a world outside of our devices. Also, me and Chloe both feel like he's musically gifted already, so I'm very excited to watch whatever it is that he gravitates towards and just nourish that and make sure he has all the resources he wants to be able to pursue whatever it is. Whether it's creative, which I think it will end up being, or if it's not, for us to just give him whatever he needs but also make him feel like he's earning it on his own, too.

How has your sisterly dynamic has evolved since he’s joined your family?

Chloe: I feel like he's mine. I'm definitely the fun auntie. He laughs at me when I make a fool of myself, and I do it for his entertainment. You gotta just put yourself out there for the kids.

Do you feel like you ever operate as a second mom?

Chloe: Yes! The *easygoing* second mom that lets him do whatever he wants.

Halle: Yeah, that's why he likes going to her house. He's like, “She's mommy, but cooler and a little more fun!”

Now that you're working on music together again, how you would each describe this new era of your duo in one word?

Chloe: Transformative.

Halle: Powerful, I would say! We went to the studio today actually. We're really excited to continue to make music together but also venture into our amazing individual projects as well. Chloe's second album Trouble in Paradise is coming out, which is exciting. She can't give away the date yet, but we're just really happy to be still creating and doing what we love.

Chloe, how would you distinguish your next album from your first?

Chloe: Oh this album is definitely a summer album—a summer baby like me!

As solo acts and as a duo, you are both at the forefront of an exhilarating wave of artists and era in music. Right now, which of your peers really excite you and inspire you?

Chloe: Someone who's really been doing the damn thing in a fantastic and smart way is JT. She is different and also very nostalgic, and I really love what she's doing. So she's been exciting me lately, and Tyla!

Halle: I loveee Reneé Rapp! Her song “Tummy Hurts” is so good. And Coco Jones, Victoria Monét, H.E.R., Willow...there's so many amazing women right now. Like Chloe!

Chloe: And Halle!

In the sprit of Core's focus on wellness, if you could sit down with your 2014 selves and give them the lowdown on how best to approach the next 10 years of their lives, what would you say?

Chloe: 16-year-old Chloe was very trusting, and I still am. So I would tell her, “Believe in yourself, fight for yourself, and don't trust everyone just because they smile in your face.”

Halle: I think I would just say, “Keep going. Through your self-doubt, through every negative thought, get through it because you're greater than that. God has a greater purpose for you and your sister. Just keep going.”
