For the first time this postseason, Donovan Mitchell looked human. He struggled to knock down jumpers throughout Game 5 and was unable to explode to the rim.

After the Utah Jazz’s tough loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, Mitchell spoke to the media about his ankle injury. Though he admit that it’s been hampering him, he doesn’t want to use his health as an excuse for Wednesday night’s loss.

“It’s something I’m going to have to deal with,” Mitchell said, via ESPN. “I mean, it f—ing sucks. I ain’t got nothing else to say. Like, it’s tough when you’re trying different things that you normally do and you see spots you can get to, but you can’t, so you got to find a way to make it happen.

“It’s tough, but I got to find a way. Otherwise, I’m going to be home. And I said it last year … and I said during the year, we didn’t do all this to lose in the second round, so we got to figure it the f— out. Otherwise, that’s it. Excuse my language.”

Mitchell missed an extended period of time during the regular season due to an ankle sprain. He returned in Game 2 of Utah’s first-round series with Memphis and immediately looked sharp.

Even though Mitchell is averaging 31.6 points per game this postseason, it’s becoming very clear that he’s not at 100 percent.

At this point, Mitchell’s ankle probably won’t get better until the offseason. That means he’ll have to find a way to manage the pain and look for other ways to be effective.

The Jazz need a win on Friday night to keep their season alive. We’ll see if Mitchell can turn in yet another great playoff performance.
