Donald Trump claims debate with Kamala Harris will be announced 'fairly soon'
WASHINGTON - Former President Donald Trump predicted Wednesday he will wind up debating Vice President Kamala Harris, and suggested that campaign and network officials are negotiating details.
"We'll be debating her, I guess, in the pretty near future," Trump said during a half-hour interview on Fox News that focused mostly on Harris. "It's going to be announced fairly soon, but we'll be debating her."
The former president and current Republican nominee has called for a Sept. 4 debate on Fox News; Harris and her aides said he should renew his commitment for a Sept. 10 faceoff on ABC News.
Trump said the ABC agreement was reached with President Joe Biden, who has since left the race in favor of Vice President Harris. Trump and Biden debated on June 27, and the incumbent president's poor performance led to the change at the top of the Democratic ticket.
In his Wednesday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, Trump told Fox that many networks are vying to host debates in the newly developed race between him and the vice president.
"I want to debate her," Trump said. "I think it's important for the country that we debate."
Harris campaign spokesperson James Singer said Trump "is afraid to debate," and has good reason to be given his bogus attacks on Democrats during the Fox interview.
“On Fox News this morning, criminal Donald Trump rambled, lied, and offered America nothing but chaos, hate and anger," he said.
