Don Arax no longer the Bullard High football coach, Fresno Unified School District says

Don Arax has been let go as the Bullard High football coach, the Fresno Unified School District announced in a press release on Friday afternoon.

No reason was given by Fresno Unified why Arax was let go.

“Bullard High School’s head football coach Don Arax has been released from his role with the team. We cannot provide details on personnel matters, but would like to clarify, he has not been fired, and will retain his teaching position,” the school district wrote in a press release.

“The Bullard Knights Football Team will move forward with Athletic Director Brandon Gilbert serving as interim head coach. Gilbert has previously spent years serving as the team’s defensive coordinator, and we know the players and coaching staff will be in good hands.”

The Bee reached out to Arax, who said he will comment later.

The Knights are on a bye this week and will play next week in the County/Metro Athletic Conference opener against Madera on the road.

Bullard is off to a 1-4 start, but played Tulare Western, Clovis West and Clovis tough, losing two of those games by a point and another by a one-score game.

The Knights are two years removed after winning the Central Section Division II championship. That season, Arax was named The Fresno Bee’s Coach of the Year.

Section historian Bob Barnett said Arax has a 178-128-1 career record through the first five games this season in his 28th year.

Arax also coached two years at Kerman and Reedley and the past 24 at Bullard.
