News, highlights and notes from the Dolphins’ training camp practice on Wednesday in Miami Gardens:

▪ Tua Tagovailoa came out very sharp, completing his first five passes in 11 on 11 work before a drop by Raheem Mostert. He didn’t throw an interception in 11 on 11 work after tossing one in the preseason game against Houston on Saturday and another on a deflected pass in Tuesday’s practice.

In Wednesday’s initial 11 on 11 drills, Tagovailoa threw 12 yards to River Cracraft, then delivered a 15-yard strike to Cedrick Wilson Jr. and another 20-yarder to Robbie Chosen. Tagovailoa then threw dump offs to Mostert and Durham Smythe, with Smythe’s a borderline touchdown.

Mostert then dropped a potential touchdown from Tagovailoa on a short throw.

In subsequent 11 on 11 drills, Tagovailoa hit Smythe on a 3-yard dump off, but Verone McKinley III made a nice play knocking away a 25-yard pass to Cedrick Wilson. Tua then threw a 25-yard missile to Robbie Chosen, who made a nifty catch in traffic.

Tua then threw a sidearm 10-yarder to rookie tight end Julian Hill, who ran for another 10.

More Tua highlights from subsequent 11 on 11 drills: a Tua 10-yard pass to Mostert, a 16-yarder to Braxton Berrios and a dump-off to Myles Gaskin and a 12-yarder to Cracraft.

In early red zone work among receivers, quarterbacks and defensive backs, Jevon Holland intercepted a Tua pass that was deflected.

Overall, this was a good day for Tagovailoa, who displayed the type of precision and accuracy we see when he’s on his game.

▪ Quarterback Mike White, who had been in concussion protocol, participated in 11 on 11 drills. He dropped the first snap he took, and then threw an interception to Xavien Howard, who likely would have returned it for a touchdown in a game. On his third play, White was sacked by Jaelan Phillips.

Things then got a bit better for White, who hit River Cracraft for a short red zone touchdown. But then Xavien Howard had good coverage on an incomplete pass from White to Keke Coutee. Jaelan Phillips then knocked away a White pass. White rebounded with a 15-yard completion to Erik Ezukanma on an impressive throw.

▪ Besides White, others who returned to practice include guard Lester Cotton and safety Brandon Jones, who was no longer wearing a red non-contact jersey.

Players who didn’t practice: receivers De’Von Achane (shoulder) and Jaylen Waddle (midsection) and Tyreek Hill (nothing serious here) and Braylon Sanders (knee bruise), tight end Eric Saubert (lower body), guard Rob Jones (MCL sprain), left tackle Terron Armstead (leg issue), linebacker Mike Rose (undiclosed), cornerback Justin Bethel (knee) and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who’s expected back in November or December after knee surgery.

▪ Zach Sieler sustained what appeared to be a knee injury during one-on-one pass rushing drills, returned to practice after working with a trainer and then left practice for good. He was flexing his leg throughout practice. But he didn’t need any assistance walking.

▪ Skylar Thompson wasn’t badly off, but several of his passes weren’t completed because of good coverage (Noah Igbinoghene in one case, Perry Nickerson in another instance, on a deep ball), a receiver falling (Cracraft) or other circumstances.

Among Thompson’s good moments on Wednesday: Cedrick Wilson extended his arms above his head to grab a pass from Thompson for a 25 yard gain, beating Keion Crossen and Trill Williams.

▪ Andrew Van Ginkel had a tackle for loss on a Jeff Wilson Jr. run. Then Josias Bronson stuffed another run by Wilson. But Wilson had a few good carries, including one that gained about 10 yards.

▪ Raekwon Davis stuffed a Mostert run. Davis has had a solid camp. But Mostert then had a very good run for 20-plus yards.

▪ Tight end Tanner Conner, back from the PUP list, extended his arms to make an exceptional catch on a James Blackman throw. No defender was near him and he took it in for a 40-yard touchdown.

▪ Rookie Nebraska edge player Garrett Nelson had another sack; he continues making a strong push for a roster spot.

▪ Good to fullback Alec Ingold back after a multiweek absence. He had a 10-yard catch and run on a throw from Tagovailoa.

▪ Safety DeShon Elliott limited Smythe to a two-yard gain on a pass from Tua.

▪ Training camp concludes with a 10:45 a.m. practice on Thursday in Miami Gardens. It’s the final full practice open to fans and reporters this calendar year.

After Thursday, reporters can watch only the first 20 minutes of practice for the next five months. And after Thursday, fans can attend only games for the remainder of 2023.
