The Dolphins have signed defensive back Jamal Perry and wide receiver Calvin Jackson Jr. to the practice squad, the team announced Tuesday, and also placed safety Brandon Jones on injured reserve.

The signing of Perry gives the Dolphins more depth in the secondary as injuries have sidelined multiple starters. Jones, the team’s leading tackler who has started all seven games this season, injured his knee in the team’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel did not say if the injury would sideline Jones for the rest of the season. Cornerbacks Kader Kohou and Keion Crossen also did not play against the Steelers because of their respective injuries.

Perry, 28, played in four games in 2021 and recorded two tackles before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. He has experience playing cornerback and safety.

Originally signed by the Eagles as an undrafted rookie in 2017, Perry spent time on the practice squad in Philadelphia and with the New England Patriots before signing with the Dolphins in 2019. He has appeared in 31 games, recording 86 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception.

After Jones left Sunday’s game in the third quarter, the Dolphins used Eric Rowe, Clayton Fejedelem and rookie Verone McKinley III, who was elevated from the practice squad, in various defensive packages.

Jackson is the son of former Dolphins defensive back and the late Calvin Jackson, who died March 2021. The younger Jackson, who attended Coral Springs Charter School, was named Associated Press first-team All-Pac 12 after ranking second in the conference with 987 receiving yards in 2021. The 5-9 Jackson signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent and spent a short time on the practice squad before being released in early September.

The Dolphins also placed wide receiver Freddie Swain on the practice squad/injured list.
