Dolphins adding veteran CB Eli Apple
MIAMI GARDENS - The Dolphins are signing veteran cornerback Eli Apple, a league source confirmed Saturday.
Eli Apple, 27, was the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was taken by the Giants from Ohio State and has also played for the Saints, Panthers and Bengals.
Apple started 31 games the last 2 seasons, as well as a Super Bowl.
Apple will fill the roster void of Jalen Ramsey, who will likely be out following knee surgery until late in the season.
Apple is a depth signing.
Kader Kohou and Cam Smith are still favored to start alongside Xavien Howard.
Miami also has veterans like Keion Crossen and youngsters like Noah Igbinoghene and Trill Williams competing.
Apple’s year-by-year Pro Football Focus grades are: 59-65-65-64-55-61-56, which are in the lower tier among starters.
Apple was PFF’s 158th-ranked CB in 2022, 155th in coverage.
Apple and Tyreek Hill have had a trash talking history.
Last year, Hill said: “I can’t wait to go against Eli Apple, man. I owe you boy. I owe you. I’m here. The Cheetah is here.”
