Dolly Parton on how 'warped' humor helped her marriage, her secret song buried in Dollywood

Dolly Parton has a fantastic new song. Trouble is, you'll have to wait 23 years to hear it.

On Tuesday, "The Kelly Clarkson Show" released a new clip of the "Jolene" singer's recent appearance on the daytime talk show. Speaking to Clarkson, Parton revealed she wrote a top-secret song that's buried in a time capsule.

"That has (driven) me crazy," Parton said. "I have written a song that nobody's going to hear until I'm 99 years old. I might be there, I might not be."

The track was written for the 2015 opening of Parton's Dollywood DreamMore resort, an adjacent hotel to her longstanding Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The country legend says she placed the song in a box along with a CD player and cassette player, but the box won't be opened until 2045, when the resort celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Parton, 76, worries the music will "rot" in the capsule before it gets opened.

"I don’t know whose damn idea that was," Parton said. "They weren’t expecting me to be there at all, and I probably won’t be. I might be there – who knows. I figure it'll probably disintegrate and nobody will ever hear it."

Adding to her frustration: She really likes the mystery tune.

"I wanna dig that up so bad," Parton said. "I need to use that song because, you know, it's a really good song!"

Although it'll be a long time before this particular track sees the light of day, Parton plans to tide fans over with a new rock album inspired by her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month.

Parton spoke about the new project during an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" earlier this month, telling the late-night host that the album is called "Rock Star" and will be out next fall.

"My husband is a rock 'n' roll freak," Parton explained, referring to her husband, Carl Dean, to whom she has been married 56 years. "So I thought, 'Well, if I'm ever gonna do it, now's the time.' "

The album will include a few original songs as well as covers of classic rock anthems by Prince, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It will also feature some surprise guest artists.

"We’re gonna have a lot of great iconic songs," Parton teased. " 'Purple Rain,' '(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,' 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Free Bird.' I even did 'Free Bird!' "

Parton also talked about her husband this week to ET Canada, explaining that their long marriage can be attributed to their shared sense of humor.

“We both have a warped sense of humor. And I think humor, honestly, is one of the best things when you’re married like that. Even if you have a problem, if you have a great sense of humor, if you say something you can’t take back, (you) usually have some crazy way of getting out of it,” she told the outlet.

It also helps that she hasn't had any arguments with her husband that were that serious, she said.

“We’ve never had, you know, serious arguments to say bad things to each other we have to take back.”

Parton will join goddaughter Miley Cyrus to co-host "Miley's New Year's Eve Party," a song-filled special airing live on NBC Dec. 31. The singers will be joined by musical artists including Sia and Rae Sremmurd, as well as cast members from NBC sketch series "Saturday Night Live."
