Dolly Parton Recreated Her 1978 Playboy Cover For Her Husband’s Birthday

  • Dolly Parton recreated her 1978 Playboy cover for her husband Carl Deans birthday.

  • She did a photoshoot in the original bunny suit outfit and had it framed next to the original cover as a gift.

  • “He still thinks I’m a hot chick after 57 years and I’m not gonna try to talk him out of that,” she said in an Instagram video.

Just when we thought Dolly Parton couldn’t get more iconic, she has one-upped herself. The Queen of Country is celebrating “Hot Girl Summer” and her husband’s birthday (mostly the latter) the only way she knows how—by recreating her Playboy cover from 1978. You know the one.

In the original photoshoot, Parton wore bunny ears, a black corset, and a sparkly pink bowtie collar. And on Instagram, she shared a video explaining that her husband Carl Dean always loved that cover, so she thought it would be a great idea to wear the outfit again for his birthday.

Back in October 2020, she pledged to pose for Playboy again when she turned 75. And now that she’s met the milestone, the magazine no longer has a print edition. So she improvised.

“You’re probably wondering why I’m dressed like this. Well, it’s for my husband’s birthday,” she said in the video, wearing the full costume. “I was trying to think of something to do to make him happy. He still thinks I’m a hot chick after 57 years and I’m not gonna try to talk him out of that.”

She went on to reveal that she had a cover made of “the old, new Dolly” and framed it next to the original to give to Dean. She referred to herself as “a little butterball” in the first photo, adding, “Well, I’m string cheese now. But he’ll probably think I’m cream cheese, I hope.” In classic Parton fashion, she signed off with a joke. “You think Playboy ought to pay for at least the photo shoot?” she asked. “I do!”

The “Jolene” singer delivered the gift while performing a song in her “little bunny suit,” as she called it, and because Dean likes to maintain his privacy, she shared a photo from behind him during her big reveal. In it, she stood in front of him holding the frame with a huge smile on her face.

“It’s always #HotGirlSummer for my husband, Carl 💝,” she captioned the post. “Happy birthday my love!”

Parton and Dean met when she was 18 years old and married two years later. And in a beautiful display of commitment and affection, they’ve kept that young romance alive.

“We still have our little times, like in the springtime when the first yellow daffodils come out. Even if there’s still some snow around it, my husband always brings me a bouquet,” she told People in September 2020. “And he’ll usually write me a little poem. Which to me, that’s priceless. That’s like a date in itself.”

She has also always embraced her sensual side—and clearly still is at 75—which makes all the difference.

“I’m a very passionate person in everything that I do, and I think passion has great sex appeal,” she said. “I think people are drawn to that because it’s a magic. It’s an energy. And I’ve always been a great lover because I’m passionate. I just feel my sensuality, my sexuality, my passion, and I don’t have to apologize for any of that.”
