Country music icon, actress, author and humanitarian Dolly Parton, 77, can now add a new line to her résumé: rock star. Dolly's 48th studio album and first rock ’n’ roll album, Rockstar, will be released on November 17; it features 30 tracks, including collaborations with Paul McCartney, Debbie Harry, Steven Tyler and Ann Wilson as well as with some big names in country (Emmylou Harris and Chris Stapleton among them).
To kick off Good Housekeeping’s Live Shopping Week with TalkShopLive, an online livestream home shopping platform, TV host Nancy O’Dell and Good Housekeeping sat down with Parton to talk about Dolly’s soon-to-be-released album and her upcoming book, Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones.
We chatted about Parton’s recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and why she felt now was the perfect time to do a rock album, how she decided on the over two dozen songs that made the final cut, whether or not she has any plans for an upcoming tour and so much more.
The segment also gave us the opportunity to surprise the star with yet another accolade: the Good Housekeeping Seal. In honor of the Seal’s 115th anniversary in 2024, GH renewed Parton’s personal Seal, which she originally earned in 2001, and bestowed the Seal upon her new album.
"Well, I appreciated it before and I didn’t know it was going to happen again — this is amazing!" Parton said. "That is impressive; I guess I'm old enough to deserve stuff like that. Well, I'll tell you, the Good Housekeeping Seal on everything is always like the best thing ever. You know that’s something you can trust, so...I trust that you love me enough to trust me with this. Thank you so much — that’ll go in the museum."
So why was now the right time to release a rock album? "The timing had everything to do with [being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame]," said Dolly. "You know, I kind of rebelled against that at the start, because I didn't think I had earned that. So that was all the more reason that I said, 'I need to do a rock album.'"
In addition to her new album, Dolly is also coming out with a new coffee table book on October 17, Behind the Seams, that takes a behind-the-scenes peek at her most unforgettable looks through the years, with 450 full-color photographs.
Readers can now preorder Dolly’s book (randomly selected copies have been signed by Parton!) as well as a limited number of collector's edition Rockstar albums with the Good Housekeeping Seal, which are only available on TalkShopLive and GoodHousekeeping.com. Get yours before they’re gone!
