Dollar General opens on Binghamton's West Side: What to know

Binghamton's West Side has gained a retail option with the opening of a Dollar General store at 68 Main St.

The store, housed at the former location of a CVS Pharmacy, will sell food, cleaning products, medicine and baby items, among other products including home décor and party supplies.

Matthew Simonsen, senior vice president of Real Estate and Store Development for Dollar General, said the company is excited to start operations in Binghamton.

“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve, and the addition of our new Binghamton store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes great prices on quality products in a convenient location,” Simonsen said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store and hope they will enjoy shopping at our new location.”

A CVS Pharmacy formerly housed at the site closed its doors in January 2019.

Following the opening of the new store, which is expected to create six to 10 new jobs, Dollar General is donating 100 books to a local elementary school.

The company's Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants, which have given nearly $240 million since 1993, will be open for applications from nonprofits and libraries within 15 miles of the Main Street store.
