Dognapped pooch rescued after TV news crew confronts perp

A Massachusetts mutt that was taken from its owner’s car was reunited after a TV news crew spotted the dognapper.

Kyle Gariepy, 29, has been charged with larceny after he allegedly broke into a parked car in Cambridge around 12:30 p.m. on Friday and took a 13-month-old German Short Haired Pointer named Titus. The thief was later spotted on surveillance footage walking with the dog over a nearby bridge.

Later while reporting on the incident, a 7NEWS crew saw the dog with the man and confronted them.

Gariepy told the newscasters and later police that he thought the dog was trapped in the locked car and the whole thing was actually a misunderstanding. However, according to police, Gariepy never called the number on the dog’s tags or reported the incident to animal control services.

Gariepy has been charged with larceny of more than $1,200 and breaking and entering into a vehicle to commit a felony.
