Notes left with a dog surrendered to an animal shelter in Greenville, South Carolina have people reaching for the Kleenex. It was clearly a hard decision to leave Rhoudy at the Greenville Humane Society, but his family gave him the sweetest goodbye with letters from his human's kids.

We can only imagine how hard it must have been for children to lose the pet they've become attached to, which is why these letters are so darn heartbreaking.

The humane society shared the letters they received when the pup was given over recently and they were so sad. The kids drew pictures of Rhoudy and said their farewells.

"We love you Rhoudy!" one of the letters reads.

The message touched workers at Greenville Humane, who assured the children on Facebook that Rhoudy was in good hands.

"To Rhoudy’s Previous Kids: We got your note," they wrote online. "We know how hard it was to say goodbye. But you were so brave and so strong. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, but he knows how much you love him."

The organization told the kids that Rhoudy was "doing good."

"He’s gone for lots of walks and has all of the toys you brought him in his bed," they explained. "He’s being given so much love."

They also told the kids that Rhoudy "is going home."

"He will find a person to love him just as much as you do," they vowed. "That’s a promise we will make to you. Just promise that you will always love him. Promise that you’ll always remember the happy times you had with him. Because those are so important."

It probably means the world to those kids to know that their dog will be taken care of. Commenters were also touched by the rescue's heartfelt message. "It would be amazing if whoever adopts Rhoudy would allow the kids to maintain a relationship with him. He was clearly loved!" wrote one person. "I am literally in tears!!! If anything these children set him up for success in finding his perfect home to love him because they too loved him dearly," a second person wrote. "Oh this is so sweet and sad all wrapped up in that post. Praying he finds a great home!!!" added another commenter.

Something tells us that Rhoudy will find a forever home. But until then he'll be loved by people who only want the best for him.

"We promise to find him a home that will love him just as much as you do," the post reads. "We know it’s hard. But we’ve got you. We promise."
