While walking along on a trail with her elderly owners, Chevy slipped and was isolated on a ledge overlooking a 98-foot drop.

“The pup’s owners, and bystanders were unable to safely reach Chevy, the nearly 80-pound, 7-year-old, American Bulldog Terrier cross. Chevy, who was a rescue herself, had become stuck in a precarious position overlooking the 30-meter deep rocky canyon,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, a spokesperson for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District, in a statement.

Before calling for help, a bystander attempted to rescue the dog but was unsuccessful.

Using climbing and repelling gear, rescue crews were able to safely bring Chevy back to her owners.

Chevy’s owner Margot Wikjord said to CTVNews Vancouver that the whole rescue operation took around two hours.

“I prayed a lot,” she said. “She alternated between barking at me and then she was crying and then she got tired of that and then she laid down.”

When she got home, Wikjord celebrated with a special beverage.

“We came home and I had a stiff drink,” she said.
