Wet. Cold. Miserable. Then came help, relief and safety.

A Labrador retriever mix got a lucky break last Friday morning in Gainesville, Florida, according to authorities.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office got a call about a stranded dog around 8:45 a.m., spokeswoman Capt. Kaley Behl told the Miami Herald.

The passerby reported that the puppy was stuck in thick mud over the seawall near the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park on U.S. 441.

“It was kind of middle of nowhere,” said Behl of the seven month old male. “We have no idea how he got there. The preserve is huge.”

The spokeswoman added that rescue took only about 15 minutes, which was fortunate because the weather was rainy and in the 60s, with temperatures dropping fast.

Bodycam footage shows the deputy tugging at the animal’s green collar, attempting to drag him through thick weeds over the seawall.

“C’mon! C’mon!” commands the deputy. “Get up here!”

After “much coaxing” — and the assistance of the good Samaritan — the dog was removed from “his precarious position,” according to a sheriff’s office post.

The clip ends with the damp furball jumping into the back of the patrol car.

He’s with Alachua County animal control being checked for a microchip. A picture on the agency’s site shows him looking healthy with his green collar still on. If he hasn’t been claimed after a few days, he will be put up for adoption.
