If you're an involved pet parent, it's only natural to include your fur baby in your travel plans. Especially if your dog loves to explore as much as you do, they'll appreciate tagging along on a trip. However, you can't decide to travel with your dog at the last minute!

Bringing your pup on vacation requires a lot of planning, packing, and even shopping, but if you start preparing now, you'll save yourself a lot of stress later. Just ask dog owner Britt! She's bringing her Golden Retriever, Winston, on a camping trip, and she's packing a few essential dog safety items that all dog owners should know about.

Fortunately, the helpful dog mom shared her favorite finds in a February 29 TikTok video. Keep on scrolling to see what she packed:

Britt is so prepared for Winston to travel, but I hope she remembered to pack for herself, too! She seems to have thought of everything, from packing Benadryl for allergic reactions to finding a cable tie out that lets her Golden Retriever explore. Even though she calls herself a 'helicopter dog mom,' this is a perfect way to plan for her buddy's safety ahead of their trip!

In case you'd like to make a list for yourself, Britt and her camping dog Winston packed:

- pet first aid kit (containing Benadryl)

- light to attach to dog collar, reflective collar, or other visibility tool for nighttime dog walks

- dog bed or mat

- long cable or tie out for dogs

Of course, you can customize your dog's packing list to include what would be most helpful for you. But don't skip the canine first aid kit and visibility tools! You will also want to pack portable bowls for your pup's food and water, an extra leash and collar, and plenty of food and water for the trip.

While one commenter suggested bringing a travel dog crate along for the trip, another recommended an emergency sling for dogs. This can be a great tool to carry large dogs in case of emergency, though remember to pack anything that would be helpful for your dog, specifically.

A First Aid Kit for Dogs

It's also important to create first aid kit that will be helpful in case of cuts, scratches, and paw injuries. You can buy dog first aid kits online, but you'll also want to include any medications that your dog needs, as well as emergency medications like Benadryl.

Additionally, make sure to have gauze, non-stick bandages, hydrogen peroxide, wound wash, and several other basic items on hand. You can visit a number of veterinary websites to read up on the items you may need, but remember to consider the weather and activities of your specific trip as you pack.

As Winston and Britt show, a little planning can ensure traveling with your dog goes as smoothly as possible--though the peace of mind is pretty nice, too!
