If you have a pooch, do you make them snacks or treats? A lot of people do, and dogs get very excited when they are served human food. TheCedLife is a dog mom who makes gourmet meals for her pups Cedric and Edith, and yes, she shares the recipes  so you can make them for your dogs too. She posted a video on Monday, March 18th of how she put together a 'Bárk Mì' sandwich for her dogs, and it looks good enough to eat!

She starts by making a 'baguette' and after it comes out of the oven she slathers it with a homemade sauce and chicken pate. She tops that off with sliced pork and lots of fresh veggies. Make sure to watch for the 'happy tappys' and have your sound on for the adorable burp at the end!

I think it's safe to say that TheCedLife's gourmet yummy sandwich was a huge success, and if we could ask them, I bet both dogs would give it two paws up! Commenter @Kels_stam made me laugh with, "My dog just asked me if we’re poor LOL!" and @Evy added, "My dogs looked at me and sighed." And I'm with @Ceelin214 who said, "Patiently waiting for you to create a doggy cookbook! You're amazing!"

Cooking for Your Pooches

Many make homemade treats, snacks, meals, and even dog food at home. They like to be in control of the ingredients their dogs are eating, and it allows them to make sure their dogs are only getting healthy ingredients. Some parents do this because their dogs have allergies, special dietary needs, or to save money, while others do it for fun.

Here, I'm going to focus on some reminders and tips from the American Kennel Club about making homemade dog food. It's cost effective and easy to do, but the first thing AKC says is don't trust random 'trusted sources' from the internet. Consult with your vet or a pet nutritionist to make sure you are getting a recipe that suits your dog's needs.

Remember that there are some ingredients you should never feed to your dog. AKC points out that, "Potentially toxic ingredients are of special concern, including chocolate, xylitol, avocado, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, and macadamia nuts."

The more that I learn about the importance of dogs having balanced meals the more that making my own dog food sounds like a headache. AKC shared this reminder, "There are commercial foods that can be purchased that contain whole ingredients that are pre-cooked. Which is very close to cooking,” and that "it can be just as beneficial to purchase pre-prepared food that’s made with the same principles in mind." For some of us, that sounds like a better route to take.
