Dog Haus to open restaurant, biergarten in downtown New Albany

Oct. 16—NEW ALBANY — A national chain is planning to open a restaurant in downtown New Albany.

Dog Haus Biergarten is expected to open in the spring at 415 Bank St. in New Albany, according to the company's website. The location was previously home to Monnik Beer Co., and before that, it was the New Albanian Bank Street Brewhouse.

A coming soon sign was recently posted on the door of the building, which has been vacant for about a year.

Dog Haus is known for its gourmet hot dogs, sausages, burgers, and craft beer, according to the company's website. Dog Haus first opened in Pasadena, California, in 2010, and it has since expanded across the country. There are no other locations in the Southern Indiana or Louisville area.

According to Dog Haus' website, the restaurant has "garnered critical acclaim and national attention for its signature all-beef Haus Dogs and handcrafted proprietary Haus Sausages, as well as its 100% genetically tested, humanely raised, hormone and antibiotic-free Black Angus beef."

The burgers, hot dogs and sausages are served on grilled King's Hawaiian rolls, and these meals can be customized with a "wide array of unique toppings." The company describes the food as "craft casual."

"Our quality ingredients, made-to-order items and fun, welcoming environment target a different pattern of consumption from fast food," the website states. "At Dog Haus, people linger to enjoy the experience of dining, relishing the laid-back atmosphere, which makes us a breakout brand rapidly expanding across the U.S."
