Dog dies after Valdosta house fire

Mar. 6—VALDOSTA — A Tuesday house fire claimed a dog's life in Valdosta.

Around 10 a.m., firefighters headed to a house fire at 802 East Gordon Street, a Valdosta Fire Department statement said.

Heavy smoke and flames were shown coming from a single-family home. Firefighters found three dogs still inside and rescued the animals; however, one of the dogs died, a second was treated and released to its owner on the scene and the third was taken to a veterinarian's office, the statement said.

Two human occupants were displaced by the fire and were getting help from the American Red Cross.

The fire may have been caused by a faulty electric scooter, the fire department said. The Valdosta Police Department and EMTs provided support on the scene.
