It doesn't take long for former Benton coach Todd Martinez to land a job

The movement continues in North Louisiana coaching circles.

A day after former St. Mary’s coach Jake Bankston was named the boys basketball coach at Benton, former Benton boys coach Todd Martinez landed at West Ouachita as the new coach.

Martinez and his assistant coach/wife, Toni, recently resigned from Benton due to unexplained circumstances, but apparently without jobs in hand. A former Shreveport Times All-City Coach of the Year when he was at Captain Shreve, Martinez was 75-110 at Benton with his only winning season in 2020-21 when his Tigers were 19-8 overall.

At Shreve, Martinez was a three-time District 1-5A Coach of the Year and was named the Northwest Louisiana FCA Coach of the Year. He coached the Gators to league titles in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He is the camp director and co-founder for FCA Coaches Care, a free basketball camp for 6- to 15-year-old kids.

The Martinez duo were the third and fourth coaches to leave Benton late in the school year. Both girls basketball coach Mary Ward and softball coach Tracey Rambin retired at the end of school.

Toni Martinez has been rumored to be headed to Cedar Creek girls basketball as an assistant, but no announcement has been made.
